INTERNATIONAL ROMA DAY 2025 SPEAKERS ANNOUNCEMENT

We're all very excited about Saturday, a day full of community, music, celebration and resistance!

On the day we will be joined by an incredible line up of people to speak before we march off! Joining us on the day to speak will be:

-Young people from Govanhill Roma Youth Project, Community Renewal: Rom Romeha and Romano Lav to lead the way

-Elected Representatives for Southside Central Councillor Dr Soryia Siddique and newly elected Councillor Mhairi Hunter

- Madeline Potter, a Romani teaching and research fellow at the University of Edinburgh, and the author of soon to be released book 'The Roma: A Travelling History'

*and*

-  Glasgow Girls Agnesa Murselaj, Roza Salih and Euan Girvan (their former teacher). The Glasgow Girls were a group of high school students who campaigned in 2005 against the detention of their friend Agnesa and her family; A Roma-Kosovan asylum seeking family who were subjected to a horrific dawn raid and kept in a detention centre. The Glasgow Girls's activism sparked national attention and challenged the UK government's treatment of asylum-seeking families. Through their incredible work and dedication to standing up for what is right, they became symbols of youth-led social justice and solidarity.

We can't wait to see you all at 1pm on Saturday in Govanhill Park! After the parade, everyone is welcome to join us after in Queens Park Govanhill Parish church for food, kids activities and some seriously great entertainment !

With huge thanks to our partners for the event, Community Renewal: Rom Romeha, Govanhill Roma Youth Project and Ando Glaso

(special shout out to Govanhill Roma Youth Project for such a great poster design!)
